Game for LIFE ..Instilling VALUES into children

Most childhood education experts agree that building a child's character must begin at preschool age. During this period, children can be easily shaped and guided to learn about what is right and what is wrong, and to learn to live a value-filled life.

Thus, teaching positive values such as honesty, courage, responsibility, compassion, integrity, self-discipline, self-reliance, kindness, friendliness, tolerance, respect, love, justice and mercy will likely be more effective when the youngsters are at preschool age than when they are at adolescent age.

Using the Sports Education Singapore`s 'Game for LIFE' basic approach as an inspiration, we educators at Sparkletots Woodlands 801, decided to come up with our own set of 'Game for life'.

What is 'Game for LIFE' ?

The 'Game for Life'  equips an individual with know-how to integrate character and leadership development into the sport arena, which encompasses a skill practice drill, fitness activity, game play, match or competition training, and even an outdoor corporate training session. The guide and toolkit used for this program provided to physical education trainers of primary and secondary schools.
The 'Game for Life'  program follows a 'Character and Leadership Development through Sports Framework'

Our 'Game for LIFE'

Since, there was no framework for pre-schoolers, we the team @ 801 decided to design our own 'Game for LIFE' program and framework based on the framework which is already given by Sports Education Singapore.

And here is our FRAMEWORK...

Since this is our "test-run" period, we have decided to work on 5 important values. They are Honesty, Justice, Determination, Consideration and Love.

1 ) Honesty - Children to be truthful to themselves and others

 2) Justice - Children to know when and how to make amendments, and to learn how to admit mistakes.

3) Determination - Determination to take on a challenge, and finish it well.

4) Consideration - Considering how others feel.

5) Love - Love for peers and the activities they take part in.

Our team plans to sit down and fit these values into the appropriate gross motor activity plans that are already provided to us. After fitting them in, we want to place emphasis on the values, when the acitivities are carried out.

Our partnership with you...Our valuable parents !

We will also like to invite parents to either join our activities, as and when time permits them, or do the activities that we will posting out, with your children at home, to further instill the values in them.

Some photos of the activities that we will be doing with the children will be posted on our future blogs.

So do view them, and send in your valuable comments.

Till we meet again in the next blog...with more updates ...

Cheers
From the TEAM @ 801
